Katsina Hisbah Destroys 120 Cartons of Alcohol in Funtua Crackdown

The Katsina State Hisbah Board on Thursday carried out a major enforcement operation in Funtua, destroying over 120 cartons of seized alcoholic beverages as part of its ongoing campaign against activities considered contrary to Islamic teachings and public morality.

The destruction exercise was led by the Commander of the Hisbah Board in Dandume Local Government Area, D.C. Bashir Lawal Balarabe, who was joined by operatives from the Funtua zone. The State Commander-General, C.G. Sheikh Malam Aminu Usman (Abu-Ammar), PhD, was also present to supervise the operation and assess compliance efforts across the area.

According to Hisbah officials, the confiscated alcohol was seized during routine patrols and targeted operations aimed at curbing the consumption, distribution, and trafficking of intoxicants prohibited under Islamic law. Authorities say the crackdown is part of renewed efforts to curb what they describe as “growing moral decadence” in parts of the state.

During the event, several Islamic scholars addressed the gathering, warning residents about the dangers of alcohol consumption and its impact on homes, youths, and communities. They reiterated that intoxicants remain forbidden in Islam and urged the public to support the Hisbah’s campaign.

Speaking after the destruction exercise, Commander-General Sheikh Abu-Ammar highlighted the board’s strengthened operations since the re-establishment and restructuring of Hisbah by Governor Dikko Radda. He noted that the governor’s support has given the board greater capacity to address challenges affecting the moral fabric of communities across Katsina State.

He described the governor’s intervention as timely, saying it has empowered Hisbah officials to respond more effectively to emerging social issues. The event was attended by senior Hisbah officials from the Funtua zone and prominent Islamic scholars from various parts of the region.
