Wike’s Bulldozer Withdrawn Amid Tensions in Gaduwa Land Dispute
The bulldozer deployed by the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) to a disputed parcel of land in Gaduwa has been removed from the site, signaling a temporary pause in the confrontation between the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, and a Nigerian Navy officer, Lieutenant Ahmad Yerima.
A video circulating on Friday captured residents of the community openly expressing their disapproval as a trailer hauled the bulldozer away. Their reaction reflected the growing public interest and unease surrounding the unfolding dispute.
The situation escalated earlier in the week when Wike arrived at the location after officials of the FCTA were allegedly prevented from demolishing a property linked to a former Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Awwal Zubairu Gambo. The property reportedly rests on land first acquired by a private company, which later sold a portion to Gambo about 15 years ago.
Tensions heightened when Lieutenant Yerima, who led a team stationed at the site, refused to grant Wike access to the property. The standoff between the military officer and the minister not only halted the demolition exercise but also triggered a wider public debate about authority, land ownership, and the boundaries of institutional power in the Federal Capital Territory.
