Residents of Chibok woke up on Saturday to the sound of chaos — gunshots, flames, and the terror that has haunted the region for over a decade. But this time, the story ended differently.
Troops of the 28 Task Force Brigade, Sector 4, Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK), stood their ground and defeated a large, coordinated attack by ISWAP/Boko Haram terrorists attempting to overrun communities in Chibok Local Government Area of Borno State.
The attack, launched around 3:00 a.m., came from multiple directions as the fighters tried to breach defensive positions and overwhelm soldiers stationed in the area.
Senator Mohammed Ali Ndume (Borno South) confirmed the incident in a phone conversation with our correspondent. According to him, he received a distress call from one of his coordinators as the assault unfolded.
“Boko Haram/ISWAP invaded some communities in Chibok, but they were repelled by troops. Unfortunately, two people were killed, and a local church was razed in Kwada village,”
the senator said with sober regret.
How the Battle Turned Around
Security sources revealed that the terrorists arrived in large numbers and attempted a surprise encirclement. But the troops responded immediately, unleashing superior firepower and engaging the attackers in a fierce two-hour battle.
“The troops were alert and professionally contained the attack. There was no casualty on our side, and no equipment was affected,”
a credible military source confirmed.
The terrorists, unable to withstand the pushback, began fleeing toward the notorious Timbuktu Triangle.
NAF Jets Deliver Devastating Final Blows
As they retreated, ground troops called for air support. Within minutes, the Nigerian Air Force deployed combat aircraft to the escape route.
What followed was a precise, intelligence-guided air operation:
-
Four major airstrikes hit clusters of fleeing fighters
-
Targets were identified in real-time by troops on the ground
-
The first strike shattered a regrouping cell
-
Subsequent strikes picked off fighters hiding in forested zones
-
An unmanned aerial platform maintained constant surveillance and delivered additional hits
“The combined air–ground coordination ensured the terrorists suffered substantial losses,”
the source said, adding that the strikes crippled any attempt at regrouping.
Chibok Mourns its Losses, Yet Stands Firm
Senator Ndume condoled with affected families and the wider Chibok community, praying for the repose of the two civilians killed during the attack.
He urged the military to sustain the pressure:
“Although the troops repelled them, we still lost two people and a church in Kwada. We need intensified efforts to restore lasting peace in Southern Borno and the entire country.”
For Chibok — a community whose name has become synonymous with resilience — the weekend attack was another reminder of ongoing threats. But it was also proof that coordinated, well-equipped forces can stop even the most aggressive assaults.
