Nigerian singer Speed Darlington has caused a stir online after appearing pleased with the Super Eagles’ exit from this year’s Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
The Nigerian team failed to reach the final on Wednesday, falling 4-2 to host nation Morocco in a semifinal match that ended 0-0 after extra time and was decided by penalties. Samuel Chukwueze and Bruno Onyeamachi missed crucial kicks, dashing Nigeria’s hopes of winning a fourth AFCON trophy.
Reacting to the outcome on social media platform X, Speed Darlington wrote, “Thank God APC can’t add AFCON to their list of achievements to hide their years of failure. AFCON bye bye.”
The Super Eagles will now compete for the bronze medal in the third-place game against Egypt, aiming to secure a podium finish despite the disappointment.
