Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara State has indefinitely suspended the Rector of Kwara State Polytechnic, Dr. Abdul Jimoh Mohammed, following a student protest on Tuesday. The suspension is pending the outcome of a new investigation into the unrest.
Hajia Sa’adatu Modibbo Kawu, Commissioner for Tertiary Education, stated that the most senior Deputy Rector has been directed to act in the interim.
A three-person panel has been inaugurated to probe the immediate and underlying causes of the protest and to recommend measures to prevent future occurrences. The committee, led by Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Bar. Senior Ibrahim Sulyman, includes Commissioner for Environment, Hon. Nafisat Buge, and Permanent Secretary, Service Welfare, Dr. Mrs Mercy Olufunke Shittu.
The panel has been given two weeks to submit its findings, with terms of reference including reviewing the handling of the protest, proposing preventative strategies, and offering recommendations for the Polytechnic’s growth.
Governor AbdulRazaq emphasised engagement with all relevant stakeholders, underscoring the state’s commitment to maintaining order and ensuring the development of its educational institutions.
