NNPP Calls Abba Yusuf’s Exit a Turning Point, Vows Party Rebuild

The national leadership of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) has described the exit of Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, as the end of an era and a defining moment in the party’s political journey. The party said his resignation marks the close of a difficult chapter tied to prolonged internal disputes.

In a statement signed by National Secretary, Comrade Oginni Olaposi Sunday, the NNPP said it accepted Governor Yusuf’s resignation in good faith. The statement linked his departure to lingering leadership wrangling that weakened cohesion within the party, particularly in Kano State.

According to the party, the internal crisis posed serious challenges to unity and effective coordination. It noted that the situation had been influenced by political tensions associated with the party’s former presidential candidate, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.

The NNPP expressed regret that the circumstances leading to the governor’s exit were avoidable. While critical of the divisions that emerged, the party stressed its resolve to move forward without distractions and rebuild its structures nationwide.

Reaffirming confidence in its long-standing foundation, the NNPP noted that it has existed for over 25 years and would endure beyond current disagreements. The party also paid tribute to its founder, Dr. Boniface Okechukwu Aniebonam, for laying the vision for national renewal.

Despite the political setback in Kano, the leadership expressed optimism about the future. It urged members across the country to remain calm and committed as the party positions itself for renewed relevance ahead of future elections and beyond 2027.
