Police Intercept Suspected Explosives in Oyo, Arrest Truck Driver

The Oyo State Police Command has announced the interception of materials suspected to be explosive devices in Saki, a town in the Oke Ogun area of the state.

The disclosure was made in a statement by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Olayinka Ayanlade, who confirmed that the driver of the truck conveying the items has been arrested.

According to the statement, the materials were discovered during a routine stop-and-search operation carried out by police operatives in Saki. The truck and the suspected devices were immediately secured and taken into police custody.

Following a briefing on the development, the Commissioner of Police in Oyo State, CP Femi Haruna, ordered a full-scale investigation into the incident.

Specialists from the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Unit and the Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (CBRN) Unit were deployed to safely handle and secure the items for forensic examination.

The police said detailed forensic analysis is ongoing to determine the exact nature of the materials and their intended purpose.

Meanwhile, the arrested driver is said to be cooperating with investigators as efforts continue to unravel the circumstances surrounding the discovery.

The development comes shortly after reports that a police inspector was killed in an ambush by suspected bandits targeting a patrol team in Oyo on Saturday.
