A commercial motorcycle rider, popularly known as an Okada rider, was brutally killed by suspected armed herdsmen on Sunday at Edikwu Ankpali in Apa Local Government Area, Benue State. His female passenger narrowly survived the attack after being brutalised and left in a pool of blood by the assailants.
Sources revealed that the victims had left Adoka town in Otukpo LGA around noon, heading to the Odugbo market in neighbouring Apa LGA. Along the Edikwu Ankpali axis, the attackers suddenly emerged from the bushes, blocked the road, and targeted unsuspecting travellers. The rider was dragged from his motorcycle and killed instantly, while the woman was left critically injured.
Fortunately, local youths from Edikwu Ankpali arrived shortly after the attack and rushed the female survivor to the General Hospital in Ugbokpo. She is receiving urgent medical care and, despite the brutal ordeal, is reportedly responding to treatment.
The incident highlights ongoing security challenges along Benue roads, especially on market days when commuters are most vulnerable. As of press time, the Benue State Police Command had not released an official statement, and residents are calling for urgent action to prevent further attacks.
