A pregnant woman, Mrs. Mary Jesulayomi, has been abducted by gunmen in Ayede community, Akure North Local Government Area, Ondo State.
The incident occurred on Tuesday evening around 7:40 p.m., when armed men opened fire in the village, causing panic among residents. Eyewitnesses said the kidnappers also attempted to abduct other people, including the wife of a local resident, but they managed to escape. An 85-year-old woman was briefly kidnapped but later released, while her 90-year-old husband sustained injuries during the attack.
State Police spokesperson DSP Abayomi Jimoh confirmed the abduction and stated that tactical teams have been deployed to rescue the victim and apprehend the perpetrators. Efforts are ongoing to locate Mrs. Jesulayomi and bring the kidnappers to justice.
The incident comes just days after the abduction of a primary school proprietress in the same area, highlighting the rising insecurity and spate of attacks in Ondo State.
