Governor Abba Yusuf has announced a fresh round of appointments and promotions aimed at strengthening governance and consolidating his political footing ahead of the 2027 elections. The move comes amid political tension following reactions from his former mentor, Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso, over Yusuf’s defection from the NNPP to the APC.
Kwankwaso, leader of the Kwankwasiyya movement and former NNPP presidential candidate, expressed deep disappointment in an interview with BBC Hausa. He described Yusuf’s exit as a “betrayal” and insisted that the governor would eventually regret leaving the party, arguing that the issues cited could have been resolved through dialogue.
Meanwhile, former governor Abdullahi Ganduje struck a reconciliatory tone, saying he remains open to reconciling with Kwankwaso. He emphasized their long-standing political relationship and noted that the focus should now be on Kano’s development within the APC framework.
The new appointments include special advisers and heads of key agencies such as WRECA, KARMA, the Scholarship Board, and the Kano Zoological Garden. Governor Yusuf urged the appointees to justify the confidence placed in them through transparency and dedication, reaffirming his commitment to the “Kano First” agenda and people-centered governance.
