The African Action Congress (AAC) in Oyo State has accused Governor Seyi Makinde of failing to effectively address worsening insecurity in the state, following reports of mass abductions of schoolchildren in Oriire Local Government Area.
In a strongly worded statement signed by its state chairman, Kayode Babayomi David, the party described the situation as a “kidnapping zone,” alleging that over 35 pupils were abducted during coordinated attacks on multiple schools, including Baptist Nursery and Primary School, Yawota Community Grammar School, Esiele, and L.A. Primary School. The party also claimed that two people were killed during the incident.
AAC said the development marks an unprecedented security breakdown in the state, insisting that residents in rural communities, markets, and transport routes are now living in constant fear due to rising attacks.
The party further accused the state government of prioritising politics over security, alleging neglect of vulnerable communities and failure to protect lives and property. It claimed that insecurity in farming and rural areas has forced many residents to abandon their daily activities.
In its statement, AAC also extended condolences to the families affected by the attack, including a school staff member and a motorcyclist reportedly killed during the incident.
While urging security agencies to urgently rescue the abducted pupils and restore calm, the party called for immediate intervention to prevent further deterioration of safety in the state.
The allegations come amid growing public concern over repeated attacks on schools and communities, as authorities continue search-and-rescue operations in the affected areas.
