Customers of the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company will be unable to purchase electricity tokens or make payments for nearly two days following a planned shutdown of its vending platform.
The company said the temporary disruption is part of a major system upgrade aimed at improving billing efficiency and customer service delivery.
In a notice signed by its Group Head of Corporate Communications, Emeka Ezeh, EEDC explained that the shutdown will begin at 6:00 p.m. on May 22, 2026, affecting postpaid customers first, while prepaid customers will be unable to transact from 12 midnight.
According to the announcement, all payment services—including recharge of prepaid meters and purchase of energy tokens—will be unavailable during the maintenance window.
The upgrade is expected to last until 12:00 a.m. on Sunday, May 24, 2026, when normal services will resume.
The disruption will also affect customers under EEDC’s subsidiary distribution platforms, including MainPower, TransPower, FirstPower, EastLand, and NewEra.
EEDC stated that the exercise is part of its broader plan to integrate a modern billing system designed to enhance operational efficiency and deliver a more seamless customer experience.
Customers have been advised to contact the company’s 24-hour customer service lines for support and enquiries during the downtime.
