The Nigeria Police Force has begun a fresh recruitment drive into its specialised Drone Section under the Police Airwing, targeting officers with experience in drone operations, engineering, and computer-related fields.
According to a police wireless message dated May 13, 2026, and obtained from Force Headquarters in Abuja, Assistant Inspectors-General of Police in all Zones 1–17, as well as Commissioners of Police across the country, have been directed to forward details of qualified personnel interested in joining the unit.
The internal communication, referenced CB:4001/DOPS/FHQ/ABJ/VOL., originated from the Department of Operations at Force Headquarters.
It stated that officers under consideration must have knowledge of drone operations, have undergone relevant drone training, or currently operate drones within their respective commands.
The directive also gave preference to cadet officers with academic backgrounds in computer science, engineering, and other related technical disciplines.
Commands were instructed to submit detailed information of interested officers, including force number, rank, name, command, date of enlistment, retirement date, and contact details, to the Police Airwing headquarters in Abuja.
The submission is expected in both hard and soft copies, with a deadline set for May 20, 2026.
Copies of the directive were also sent to key departments within Force Headquarters, including the Inspector-General of Police’s Secretariat, the Department of Finance and Administration, and the Department of Training and Development.
The move signals an effort by the police authorities to expand their technological and aerial surveillance capabilities through specialised drone operations.
