The family of former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir el-Rufai, has raised serious concerns over his repeated transfers between security agencies following a court appearance in Abuja, describing the situation as distressing and politically charged.
Speaking outside a DSS facility, his wife, Hasiat el-Rufai, said the family has been living under what she called “constant fear,” alleging surveillance, threats, and emotional strain linked to his ongoing legal troubles. She insisted that his movement between the ICPC and DSS custody violated existing court orders.
According to her account, el-Rufai had already secured bail from the Federal High Court before what she described as unexpected custody changes during a court break, saying he resisted being moved because of conflicting court directives.
“We now live in constant fear… every day there is talk of raids, surveillance, and threats,” she said.
The family further claimed that he has been denied consistent access to his doctors despite court approval for medical attention, raising concerns about his wellbeing during prolonged detention.
His son, Hon. Bello el-Rufai, also criticized the bail conditions, describing them as excessively strict and difficult to meet, while suggesting that the process was politically motivated.
Meanwhile, supporters of the former governor argue that he is being subjected to psychological pressure through repeated transfers between agencies and court appearances, calling for his immediate return to ICPC custody in line with existing court orders.
Security sources later confirmed that he had been moved back to ICPC custody after legal consultations between parties involved in the case.
As the situation continues to unfold, the case has added fresh attention to ongoing tensions between political figures and Nigeria’s anti-corruption agencies, with questions now being raised about due process, custody arrangements, and court compliance.
