Tanzania Triumphs at 2024 World Travel Awards Africa

 

 

THE 2024 World Travel Awards Africa Gala Ceremony has announced its winners, showcasing the best of the continent’s tourism industry at the prestigious Diamonds Leisure Beach & Golf Resort in Diani Beach, Kenya. The ceremony, held in one of Kenya’s prime coastal locations, celebrated key players in Africa’s booming tourism sector.

Tanzania emerged as the standout winner, clinching two of the most coveted titles. It was named Africa’s Leading Destination and saw its tourism board recognised as Africa’s Leading Tourist Board. On top of these honours, Serengeti National Park was voted Africa’s Leading National Park, and Mount Kilimanjaro was named Africa’s Leading Tourist Attraction, reaffirming Tanzania’s position as a top global destination for nature and adventure tourism.

Celebrating emerging destinations

Kenya also made a strong impression, with several major wins. Diani Beach was named Africa’s Leading Beach Destination, reflecting its continued popularity among travellers. The capital city, Nairobi, was recognised as Africa’s Leading Business Travel Destination, further cementing its reputation as a hub for business and tourism alike. The luxury Fairmont Mount Kenya Safari Club took home the title of Africa’s Leading Hotel, while Somerset Westview in Nairobi was awarded Africa’s Leading Serviced Apartments.

Newcomer destinations also received recognition. Kenya’s Angama Amboseli, a luxury tented lodge located in the heart of Kimana Sanctuary—Kenya’s first community-owned conservancy—was named Africa’s Leading New Hotel. Meanwhile, Morocco’s St. Regis La Bahia Blanca Resort in Tamuda Bay was celebrated as Africa’s Leading New Resort.

Durban, known for its vibrant economy and infrastructure, secured the title of Africa’s Leading Meetings & Conference Destination. The Port of Cape Town was named Africa’s Leading Cruise Port, highlighting its importance in the continent’s growing cruise tourism industry.

Honouring Africa’s tourism achievements

Graham Cooke, founder of the World Travel Awards, praised the winners for their dedication to excellence in tourism. ‘It has been a privilege to welcome our winners from every corner of Africa to celebrate in Kenya’s beautiful Diani Beach. Aviation excellence

The aviation sector also saw several big wins. Kenya Airways, known for its extensive regional and international reach, was named Africa’s Leading Airline and also took the award for Africa’s Leading Airline—Business Class. Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in Nairobi received the accolade for Africa’s Leading Airport, further solidifying its status as a key transport hub in Africa.

Satguru Travel, a prominent player in Africa’s travel industry, also made a mark, winning multiple awards, including Africa’s Leading Leisure Travel Agency.
