The Elegant Nurses Forum (ENF) has condemned the alleged assault on Chief Nursing Officer Odusola Oluwakemi at the Federal Medical Centre Abeokuta, calling for urgent justice and enhanced security measures.
In a statement issued on Saturday, the group said Mrs. Odusola, a widow, was allegedly attacked on January 15, 2026, by the hospital’s Head of Nursing Services, Fagoyinbo Abosede. The incident reportedly left her with severe injuries that required hospitalisation.
According to the forum, it petitioned the Nigeria Police Force after the suspect allegedly ignored initial invitations from a local police station. The group further claimed that the accused boasted of connections to political figures, raising concerns about possible interference in the investigation.
Tensions escalated following a recent incident in which an unidentified man allegedly scaled the fence of Mrs. Odusola’s residence. Neighbours reportedly raised an alarm after power was restored, forcing the intruder to flee. While initially suspected to be a thief, the victim’s family believes the incident may be linked to the earlier workplace dispute.
Reacting to the developments, ENF National Coordinator Thomas Abiodun Olamide commended the Ogun State Police Command for obtaining a statement from the accused but urged swift and decisive action.
The forum also raised concerns about what it described as a pattern of intimidation and victimisation within the nursing department, calling on authorities to address workplace violence in the health sector.
Among its demands, the ENF called for:
- Immediate police protection for the victim
- A thorough investigation into both the assault and the alleged home intrusion
- Intervention by the management of FMC Abeokuta
- Prosecution of all individuals found culpable, regardless of influence
“Nurses deserve dignity, respect, and fair treatment… No one is above the law,” Olamide stated.
As of press time, efforts to obtain official responses from hospital management and the police were unsuccessful.
The incident has further highlighted concerns over workplace safety in Nigeria’s healthcare system, where professionals often operate under challenging conditions and increasing pressure.
