Nnamdi Kanu Sends Appreciation Message to US Ex-Mayor Amid Ongoing Legal Tensions’

The detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, has conveyed a message of appreciation to former United States mayor Mike Arnold, commending his efforts in drawing international attention to his case and the activities of IPOB.

The message was made public by Kanu’s legal counsel, Aloy Ejimakor, who said he was instructed to release the statement verbatim.

In the message addressed directly to Arnold, Kanu expressed gratitude for what he described as a commitment to truth in a complex and controversial situation.

“I am writing to acknowledge your remarkable effort in shedding light on the truth about me and my people. Your commitment to the truth is commendable,” the statement read.

Kanu also assured Arnold of the support of both himself and IPOB, adding a note of goodwill and encouragement.

The development comes amid ongoing legal and political tensions surrounding Kanu’s detention, which continues to attract both domestic and international attention.

Meanwhile, IPOB has also praised Arnold and members of the United States Congress for what it described as a “bold intervention” regarding security concerns in Nigeria, particularly allegations of violence in parts of the country.

In a separate statement, the group renewed its longstanding call for a United Nations-supervised referendum on Biafra’s independence, maintaining that such a process remains its primary demand.

Arnold, who led a fact-finding delegation to Nigeria in October 2025, has been involved in discussions with U.S. policymakers on the country’s security situation, further increasing global attention on the issue.

The situation continues to evolve as debates over security, governance, and self-determination remain at the forefront of national and international discourse.
