Night of Terror in Kwara: Bandits Launch Coordinated Attacks, Abduct Residents Across Communitiesv

Fear has gripped parts of Kwara State following coordinated attacks by suspected bandits on multiple rural communities, leaving several residents abducted, others injured, and properties disrupted in a wave of violence that underscores growing insecurity in the region.

The attacks, which occurred late Wednesday night, targeted Iwo Odo-Ore in Isin Local Government Area, as well as Gaa-Idera and Gaa Dembo-Agunjin in Ifelodun Local Government Area. Security sources revealed that the assaults were carried out almost simultaneously, indicating a high level of coordination among the attackers.

In Iwo Odo-Ore, the violence was particularly severe, with at least five residents reportedly abducted. Among them was Alhaji Yusuf Yunusa, a prominent figure in the community known for his involvement in local politics and education. He was taken alongside four other residents, believed to be of Hausa origin, in an operation that has left the community in shock.

Sources disclosed that Yunusa had been preparing for a family event prior to the attack, including an Islamic graduation ceremony for his child scheduled to take place in Lagos. His abduction has therefore not only disrupted personal plans but also heightened anxiety among residents who see the incident as a direct threat to community stability.

In Ifelodun Local Government Area, the pattern of violence was similarly alarming. Reports indicate that six persons were abducted in Gaa Dembo-Agunjin, while two others were taken in Gaa-Idera. The attackers reportedly targeted individuals connected to a wedding ceremony, including the bride’s mother, further deepening the emotional toll of the incident.

Beyond the kidnappings, the attackers also engaged in cattle rustling and opened fire on residents. At least two individuals sustained gunshot injuries during the attacks, with one victim reportedly hit in the hand. The combination of abduction, violence, and economic disruption has left affected communities in a state of fear and uncertainty.

The incidents have intensified concerns about the spread of banditry into parts of Kwara State, particularly in the southern axis, which has increasingly come under threat in recent times. Residents are calling for urgent intervention by security agencies to prevent further escalation and restore confidence in the safety of their communities.

As of the time of reporting, there has been no official statement from authorities, but the scale and coordination of the attacks suggest a troubling shift in the security dynamics of the state.
