Tragedy struck at the College of Nursing, Umulogho, in Obowo Local Government Area of Imo State after a student identified as Wendy Achumba was found dead in her apartment.
According to sources within the school, the young woman’s lifeless body was discovered inside her residence located off-campus, throwing students and staff into shock and grief.
Achumba, said to be from Ngwa in Abia State, had reportedly completed her Midwifery programme and was still undergoing her Post Basic training at the institution before the tragic incident occurred.
Confirming the development, the spokesperson of the Imo State Police Command, Henry Okoye, stated that police operatives immediately visited the scene after receiving the report and commenced investigations into the circumstances surrounding her death.
He disclosed that one suspect has already been arrested for preliminary questioning, while security operatives have launched a wider manhunt for other individuals believed to be connected to the case.
The police also confirmed that the victim’s body has been deposited in a morgue as investigations continue.
Authorities appealed to students and residents to remain calm, assuring the public that efforts are ongoing to uncover what happened and bring all those responsible to justice.
